Petrel - A Northwest Icon
I’m excited to announce our recent purchase of a classic converted Northwest Troller, Petrel, and with the purchase show our commitment to preserving the beauty and heritage of wooden boats in our area. With decades of experience in wooden boat repairs we are one of the premier wooden boat restoration and repair shop in the Northwest.
Petrel was originally built in 1928 and meticulously restored and converted from a commercial fishing boat to a cruiser in the early 2000’s and has be lovingly maintained ever since. We’re taking the mantel and will continue to maintain her to the same standards and treat her as a living museum of our past. Closer to heart, it’s so cool that Petrel was originally built in my birth town of Astoria, Oregon. Petrel resembles my Grandpa’s commercial fishing boat, the Gloria S and many of the boats that delivered fish to Bell Buoy Crab Company, which my Grandpa and Dad owned and managed for many years.
As a traditionally built wooden boat, Petrel, will require continuous care. First up is sealing up the deck. There are a number of leaks that need to be dealt with that we hope to fix before the winter! Please reach out if you have any questions about our experience in working on wooden boats and if we might be able to assist you in your restoration. Or, better yet, if you’re at the Wooden Boat Festival in Port Townsend this year please stop by Petrel and say hi.
“A vessel so cute, so right, so honest, she’s like that perfect boat a kindergartener might draw from imagination.”
